A music gig at Capitol Records may have introduced them, but food ignited their passion for creative collaboration. Sun Soul Orchestra would have never happened without a mutual love of cuisine. After long days of rehearsals, gigs, lessons, and sessions, these two cats sit down to eat at 10pm, and finish at midnight. They know how to draw out a meal. They taste their food. And talk about it. They laugh, debate, discuss and tease each other endlessly while eating gooood food. Their musical pairing took some time to slow-cook into the rich and complex musical gumbo that became Sun Soul Orchestra. They approach their creative partnership with the same gusto that inspires daily meals. Similar to California fusion cuisine, their original compositions and arrangements draw on a vast array of cultural influences and musical genres: classical, jazz, soul, hip-hop, tango, bossa nova, blues, New Orleans.
